The 2003 wine grape harvest and crush are in full swing at UC Davis, where students are taking the classroom into the pilot winery this week to learn firsthand the finer points of wine production.
The records of the Washington State Grape Society were donated to the Washington State University Libraries in two accessions. The first (MS 77-23) came from Mrs. Karen Mortenson, secretary of the the Society, in June 1977. It comprises records from 1971 to 1976.
The white flecking seen on these grape leaves is the result of the grape leafhoppers puncturing the cells on the underside of the leaves and sucking out the sap. The brown splotches are areas of dead tissue resulting from severe injury by this insect.
